The wildfire in the Wrightwood region has grown to at least 775 acres and is only 5% contained.

Desert Front Road, Wild Horse Canyon Road, and the neighbourhood of Wrightwood have all been ordered to evacuate.

(KABC) WRIGHTWOOD, Calif. As of Sunday evening, a wildfire in the Wrightwood area was still burning and had grown to at least 775 acres, with only 5% containment.

Desert Front Road, Wild Horse Canyon Road, and the town of Wrightwood have all been ordered to evacuate; the evacuation order extends from Highway 2 to Mesquite Street, from Highway 138 to Sand Canyon, and from Wright Mountain Road to Lone Pine Canyon Road.

Additionally, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has issued an evacuation notice for all of Wrightwood.

Serrano High School, located at 9292 Sheep Creek Road in the unincorporated hamlet of Phelan, has been designated as an evacuation centre by the Red Cross.

Small animals and livestock can be transported to the Devore Animal Shelter in San Bernardino, which is situated at 19777 Shelter Way.

The fire started when temperatures reached triple digits and the brush was bone dry. The flames are being fanned by strong winds.

More than 200 firemen are working on the ground and in the air to put out the fire.

According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, Highway 2 was closed from Highway 138 to the Sheep Creek area.

The cause is still being investigated.
